I figured I'd share some pictures of how my dollhouse looks currently (as of 11:00 this morning).
I've done some demolition since then and never bothered to take pictures. I will before I do much more though, but I didn't want to overload you today. :)
I'll add my commentary as I go.
This is the inside, it's dark. I painted it like ten years ago with some tempera poster paints because I wanted to make it look cool, I had no clue that it would be this dark! The roof bit on you see here has been taken off and I'll be repairing the cedar shingles on it before putting it back on. The staircase is off too now. I plan on finishing it and making the stairs have backs and a railing. You can see the attic has no entryway either, I think I'll cut out a hole and put a ladder in on the right side. Or the left, I'm not sure yet.
My lovely dollhouse, the windows and door are all knocked out. The door was my fault, I thought it opened and accidentally broke it the day I got it. My grandpa was super understanding about me breaking it though. The windows were mostly casualties of my cousins and I fighting over toys and such.
The front steps were broken off and gorilla-glued back on at one point, I'm going to have to reinforce the bottom before I attempt to take those off! I plan on copying them and building new ones though, those ones are crooked and nasty looking from being repaired so often.
The house is modeled after a Victorian-era townhouse. I plan on decorating it in that style when it's finished. The front porch railing is broken off, but I'll fix it. I think I might make the porch bigger too.
I also have a little doghouse that matches this house perfectly. :) It's in the basement with my miniatures though.
These scalloped "fish scale" shingle things are all off, they were only glossy cardstock. Hopefully I can find some more or someone willing to make me some. It was fun taking them off though. Just slid the x-acto knife blade under them and after the third set I took them off in one big piece!
The pretty pattern in the windows. They don't make these anymore, so I'm going to have to make some out of some form of light plastic and stencil the pattern on. I've been looking at possibly doing a different pattern, but it's kind of confusing. These windows are taken out, but I have them in a bag so I can see the pattern later. I also have the stairs (in pieces) and the scallop shingles so I know what sort to get.
Also, part of the trim above where the entry way would be (above the steps) is broken, I'll straighten up the trim because I might not be able to find the pieces I need.
The pretty railing, I'll probably have to cut it off and use single spindles, they don't make this kind anymore. That would look nice too, of course. There's similar railing, but without the circle things at the top as the stairway banister thing. It's cool.
Little window thinger! The shingles are really bad on this one, but I don't want to tear the roof off. My dad's going to show me how to replace the broken shingles. I plan on making that like a cat's bed and play area.
The corner thing, you can see where my cousin graffitied the wall with makeup years ago. There's trim missing on that juttey out bit there. I think I might even buy tiny siding to put up, it depends. I really want to paint the house either pale blue or a dark red.
The one window that was in decent shape. It's in the bag with the other windows so I know what I need to find later on. Did you know they make little windows that open and close? And they make little outlets and stuff that runs off of electricity! My dollhouse was built in the early 90's though so it's before all that.
My husband was like "So, you finally found yourself an expensive and time-consuming hobby, huh?"
And then I was like "Yep, but you have four years of our shared income headstart invested in yours. I'll have to catch up." *evilgrin*
On a final note for now, I made a neat treasury at Etsy of things I want for my dollhouse. :)
You can see it here.
I might make this a blog feature if you all are okay with it. :) Dollhouse progress! (it's going to take years!)

Love this. I always wanted a dollhouse as a kid. But first I need to decorate my first big people house. Then I can take another look at finally getting a dollhouse.
ReplyDeleteOoOhhh! I love ti! It rocks! I like all your plans for it too! Hearts, Janna Lynn
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteAnna- big people houses are fun to decorate too! You should get one of the new kits if you get a dollhouse!
Janna Lynn- Thanks :) I'm so excited to start it, I'm hopefully ordering shingles for it soon!
